Remembering the Torch
Here at SoH, we package our game at least once a week to make sure everything is working correctly, and we periodically test to see if we have network limitations or issues. For this test, we created a Torch power in remembrance of the last days of the closed MMORPG City of Heroes, and logged in to the packaged game at night. Apotheosis City looks very different at night, and provides a unique environment for fighting, or for just hanging out. We’re particularly pleased with the appearance of the clouds drifting across the starry night sky.
All of the characters shown were logged in and manually controlled by members of our dev team, and by their families. We connected to a server that we rent for these tests to minimize the cost of development. Test users connected simultaneously from four US states: Pennsylvania, Nevada, North Carolina, and Texas. The test was a complete success; there were no problems with networking, server performance, or the performance of the packaged game client. While we expect to continue to improve networking performance, so far we have not had a problem. As far as we know, this is the only successful network test to ever be recorded and publicly shown by a pre-Kickstarter MMORPG.
The CCT Beta is beginning at noon Eastern Standard Time (GMT–5) on November 1st. This is a donor event, a “thank you” to all the donors who helped make Ship of Heroes possible over the last two and a half years. Everyone who has donated $50 or more during that time is eligible to test out the CCT during this system Beta, and to run around in Apotheosis City.
Donor Beta test will provide valuable feedback from user community, allowing the team to set a list of desired features before 2020 game launch.
On December 15th, at about 10 in the morning eastern time, we’re going to conduct a login test with Ship of Heroes supporters and devs.
In 2017, we gave a group of supporters a chance to try out the first version of our Character Creation Tool (CCT). Earlier this year, we did a series of team combat Alpha runs. Now we’re about to conduct our third Alpha activity: a large-scale login test in which up to 100 players can log into Ship of Heroes simultaneously.
