Pets that Fight

Postby Consultant » Sat Mar 14, 2020 9:00 am

We've had some questions about pets. Particularly about Commander pets, and perhaps a Controller pet.

I thought it wold cheer people up a bit to learn that I was actually looking at a video of one of our pets being used to help a Controller in a fight. We have pets, and code to make them work. But we're still upgrading it a bit before the first video is shown.

But I know that we all had some discussions about what commands we want to be able to give to our pets, and this is the moment for someone to help us out, and refresh us on what we decided, so that good thinking from the past is not lost. Does anyone remember exactly what we wanted to have?

We are certainbly expecting to have a bit of an upgrade from the commands in COX or SWTOR.

Attack current enemy target
Attack attacker of defensive target
Attack highest health enemy
Attack lowest health enemy
Attack highest rank (boss/lt/minion) enemy
Attack lowest rank enemy

Can't think of anything else.

This is helpful. Thanks!

If anyone else thinks of additional preset commands for pets, let us know.

Definitely dance. What good is all that combat stuff if you can't celebrate afterwards?

While it's great to have micro-management of individual pets for those who want such a thing, I think it's also a good idea to give them some degree of automomy - just a sort of fire and forget pet, tell it to attack then forget about it till it's defeated or gets bored and runs off. Not everybody wants to sit there juggling every aspect of every pet in every fight.

It would be cool if there was the ability to assign pet commands based on certain events. They would be optional and set up kind of like macro commands.

In a mission instance - assign an Attack
No mission - assign Defend stance
Mission just completed - Dance

You may even be able to have several different command structures and assign them to keys.

True. every emote we can do should have a corresponding command for all pets or at least all humanish pets

By the way, Controllers can get a pet in the event right now, and Controllers can also do damage now.

Pet AI will be improved tonight -- at least that's the plan.

attack my target,
aggressive (attack anything in range),
passive (dont attack anything),
and defensive (attack whatever attacks me/other pet) modes.
go to target spot
follow me (heel)
stay here
a command that lets them do any emote we can do
"petsay" command

I don't think attack highest/lowest hp or attack certain ranks is a good idea, gotta leave something for us to do manually so it feels like we are actually interacting with them.
