Ship is too small?

Postby Golden Ace » Fri Jan 26, 2018 4:17 pm

I was just looking at the width of the zone 1 1/4 miles approximately. :/ that's the distance from the Washington monument to the capital. it's not all that large. :(

maybe in game it will seem different but for now it seems kind of small. :/

how big was atlas park? and or the hollows?

anyone know?

yeah I know comparing an in game area with an outside area. :/

Southend Pier is 1.1/4 miles long. The pic gives good visualisation of the width of the ship.

Its the longest pier in the world, we don't have much but what we do is weird.

My point exactly. A whole city and waterfront etc... in that small area

okay i looked it up

a mile is 5,280 feet. Atlas park was 4,606 wide by 3,454 wide or the whole zone is 87% of a mile by 65%

whereas the Hollows is nearly a mile wide and over a mile and a half long (5,030 feet X 8,446 feet 95% of a mile by 1.59%).

The ships zones will be larger than atlas park and nearly as large as the hollows. That's pretty big.

so the ship is a mile and a quarter wide that's 6,600 feet more or less but it's a circle.. that's about 34,211,944 square feet which is just over 8 million square feet smaller than the hollows (42,483,380), but its much bigger than any other strait city zone.

I take back the too small comment but I do suggest we not mention how wide it is in terms of miles...

Don't forget there will also be planets. The ship will not be the whole of the game.

True but planets won't come for years.

I recall that the entirety of Skyrim is around 15 sq miles or so, about the size of Manhattan. WoW's Eastern Kingdoms (or Kalimdor, they're about the same) is 80 sq miles. The latter quote might be wrong, but it sounds right compared to other games.

The nice thing about a ship, though, is that it can be expanded a great deal pretty easily ;-)

It's worth remembering that the ship itself is over 20 miles long and that each 'segment' has vertical as well as horizontal space to work in. The vertical space was never used a great deal in CoH, probably because someone decided that superspeeders needed to be able to get to missions as well as the flyers :)

Not at all worried about this, The ship is very big IMHO.

Might be small for some zones, but didn't the dev's say that there would the planets too? so worst case, some extra constant will be coming with new planets, I'm sure tho's could be way bigger they each of the ship levels.

I am not worried at all about the pure size of the ship. It has many parts as big as apotheosis city, but they won't be available at start. Why? The dev's have only so much time and those things take a lot of time. The limiting factor is dev time, not raw ship size.

Besides: Size is easy. They could very easily open the other parts of the ships, basically empty or procedurally filled. But that would not be interesting. Content is king, not size.

So, basically each level is as big as the bigger CoH zones, and there's 20 of them plus a sub-level for each, so effectively 40 CoH zones. Plus planet visits when they're added.

I think we're going to have plenty of room :P

This is simple ( Pie R 2 nd) So we take a circle diameter of the Justice of to be about 1.5 miles that means the radius is .75 miles
add the Area of a circle formula and you get 1.77 squear miles ... next add in the lower level and you have each section of the ship = to 3.54 square miles... ...and 20 lvl's and you have 70.80 square miles That's a lot of real estate ...

This is something I am worried about but in a different way. I asked how long does it take to get from one side to the other on youtube. This is what I was told.
It takes just under 6 minutes to get from one side of Apotheosis City to the other with the current default run speed.
To me thats to small for 1 zone. It would be fine if there was more zones but starting with only 1 zone this isn't good.

I was about to say, don't you remember how big/small the CoH zones were?

There are instanced "dungeons" as well for missions plus planet areas will presumably be larger areas.
