Some Insights from the Beta

Postby Consultant » Wed Nov 13, 2019 6:46 am

We'll have a newsletter out with some of the stuff we learned in the Beta, but I thought we might just share a few things here for the forum-reading community.

This was a hugely successful Beta -- one way to tell that is people were having fun!

We're going to post the dialog from the closing Q&A soon, which shows off the fun and postive community pretty well. But I was struck by something small that I would like to share.

Out of over a thousand characters created during the Beta, our community produced this distribution:

42% females
40% males
18% big guys

This is almost exactly what people predicted in a poll of the subject from last year.

That's interesting, nice to see there'll be a good variety of characters out there :)

Do we have similar stats for the archetypes created?

That is a good question. Let me check if we captured that info.

During the Beta we had:

28% Tanks

25% Brawlers

31% Devastators

16% Support

So it looks like no more "City of Tanks." And this will be a pretty good distribution for invasion testing I think.

Thankyou :)

If that's maintained at launch we should have no problems creating well rounded teams. All looking good!

I have posted this news letter on my facebook page. Mixed feelings about being included in the press release picture in my pants

By the way, the most popular powersets selected during the Beta tended to be the ones at the top of the list, followed by the ones we have published videos about -- so people knew what the powers looked like in advance.

We take this as a good sign. People were mostly interested in the character creator and understood that this was a system Beta, not a full game Beta. The focus was on costumes, character faces, and general appearance. Not on primary and secondary powersets. And on exploring the city, of course.

Although I was very surprised that one person reported that they had leveled their level 1 character to level 8 simply by repeatedly killing target dummies -- something we had never considered.
