The one thing I dislike about CoH, & what I hope SoH does better?
Character creation diversity.
If CO was your 1st superhero mmo, it is like the Hulu commercial. "Never get Hulu."
Compared to CO, CoH's character creation is limited, which dampers the experience. There is a lot of admiration surrounding CoH, deservedly so. However, the character creation is rather bland.
I hope SoH's character creation is more along the lines of CO; in terms of layering, color palettes, the diversity of parts (Creatures, beast, robotics, etc). CoH arrival has stolen the thunder of CoT & SoH. However, CoH does not fill a niche CO created.
This is were SoH comes in. There has yet to be a mmo to top CO's character creation, will SoH be the one to do it? Can we comfortably say, SoH will top CO's character creation?
There is still a void that needs to be filled; one CO has created. CO has the best character creation, but beyond that, it is a poor game. We need an mmo with that level of customization, but great game-play imo.

CO`s character creator is pretty complex. I don`t think there will be any similar so soon.Character creation diversity.

A game’s graphics are meant to appeal. A game’s mechanics are meant to make you feel amazing or challenged. A game’s sound effects are supposed to add life. But a good game’s UI is meant to disappear!

All character creation tools start out at one level and advance as the game advances. So be prepared to see something very good at the start, but not with everything that has ever been in any MMO, ever.

Hopefully there are pieces to simulate a Golden Age costume.

One thing we are doing right now is working on an upgrade to how the character faces look. We're experimenting with more realistic faces, and we plan to involve the community with some prototypes before the CCT Beta kicks off.
I think this is going to be very fun.

I would like a nemesis. Someone that pops into my mission arc from time to time to thwart my attempts to rescue someone...or to frame me for a crime i did not commit ...something like that.
Make me want to actually pay attention to the story...not just click to the next jumbled text just to hurry along the mission. The missions that stick in my mind are the ones that make me pay attention to the story.

This is my main complaint too. CoH has a lot of action, but the stories seem very weak. Normally, I don't even know what story I'm in. I'd like to see more involved stories somehow....

Regarding CoH stories, blue side is weak. The stories on the red and gold sides however are very good, IMO. The problem is that everyone goes blue and never plays them. This is my main complaint too. One thing that I really disliked about CoH, especially at low levels, was MISS MISS MISS MISS MISS. There really needs to be a streak breaker in there and it needs to be set LOW. Heroes shouldn't be whiffing at air most of the time.

I remember one time in CoH just after they introduced deflections. Me and at least one other person were running an office mission and we went up against some orange level baddies. I guess I wasn't properly enhanced because this is what I kept getting
MISS
DEFLECTED
DEFLECTED
MISS
DEFLECTED
DEFLECTED

MISS

before I finally got a hit. A streak breaker would be much appreciated.

I disagree with this somewhat. In the olden days (DAOC), a white mob was equal to you, so it was a fair fight.
A yellow mob is more powerful than you, although you could probably still defeat it.
An orange mob is much more powerful than you are, and defeating one is an accomplishment.
In CoH, as a blaster, I could routinely kill oranges and even reds, even bosses. But I had to use accuracy buffs, and Aim and Buildup.
SoH will have to decide how much "inflation" there has been. Is an orange still going to be much more powerful than you are?

I made a suggestion that temp powers be organized in slots. So you could slot an accuracy temp power and turn it on when fighting tough foes. My suggestion was that there were temp power slots, and you acquire more of them as you level up.
1 - Universal (get this one at level 1)
2 - you get the next slot at level 10 based on the primary powerset in your AT, so if you are a tank, the next slot is defensive. A Devastator would get offensive. A Defender would get support.
3 - you get the next slot at level 20 based on your secondary powerset. So a Devastator would get support, a Tank would get offense, and so on.
4 - you get the next slot at level 30 and it would be the remaining type, so a tank or Brawler would get support. A defender or Devastator would get defense.
As you level up as the level cap increases, you add more and more temp slots at every decade level. At this point you get to pick what type you want, so if you get to level 60 as a tank, you may add 3 more defense slots at levels 40, 50 and 60.
Temp powers would come in all shapes and sizes, and specialized ones are more powerful. So a lower level general resistance temp power could be 5% resistance, but an elemental resistance temp could be 10%, and so on. The most powerful temp powers would have the shortest duration. So a low level elemental resistance (10%) temp may last for an hour, and a high level (25% elemental resistance) may only last 15 minutes. You can stack the same type in a slot, so if you have 3 high end elemental resistance temps, they could be stacked and would fire off one after another to last 45 minutes.
A power like Flurry (moderate damage in a melee cone attack) may have 20 uses. Something like Total Focus (superior damage with a very high chance to stun) may only have 3 uses.
Also, keep in mind we all will carry blasters (minor ranged DPS), so ranged damage temps will probably only be taken for specialist damage types.
The primary source for temp powers greater than the minor ones would be crafting.
