Did you play the closed MMORPG City of Heroes?

  • Yes, and it was very significant to me
  • Yes, but it was one of many games I’ve enjoyed
  • I may have played, but just for a bit.
  • I’m not sure, or don’t recall
  • No, I didn’t play that one.

Yes, and it was very significant to me.

First MMO for me, and the most memorable. stayed with them from beginning to end. :(

A very significant game for me.

It was my first MMORPG. It was based on comics, of which I am an Uber Geek. And it was very much fun. Did it have problems? Of course, although many of those were fixed, particularly when Paragon Studios took the helm.

For me, it was an experience like no other. I played all eight years, although I did take breaks. The game in 2nd place, DCUO, is about 2.5 years...

It was significant for me too. To this date, it's been the only MMO I've played and subscribed to without break for more than a couple of years. I usually only last a few months in an MMO but CoH had something special that kept me there for over five years.

Yes, very significant. It was my first MMO. Everyone was very patient and nice ingame as I learned the basics and I never had to worry about min-maxing because everything was fun to play. CoH was the most relaxing and fun MMO I've ever played and I'm hoping SoH can bring back that amazing feeling.

Currently 82% choosing option 1 as I did (what a surprise).

8% never played.

But the never played option was actually higher in a similar question two years ago. I think we may be collecting more of the old COH community recently.

Thanks for the update. I hate not seeing what the percentages are until the pole is over.

Yes, and it was very significant to me

Played during the initial stages of the Cbt trough into the end stages of the Obt. Having made many completely oxymoron toons throughout the games life. Having watched and played through the many reiterations of the beginning stages to the end was a very neat and complete breath of fresh air for the game market at the time. Do look forward to the progression and quirkiness this game has in stored for both old fans and new fans alike.

Wasn't my first MMO (my first were korean games that went international like Ragnarok Online and NexusTK) but it was my first 3D / western MMO.

I'd seen friends play stuff like Asheron's Call and Everquest but those didn't interest me.

It was my first MMO. Was there for the early beta all the way to shutdown and always played. Have never been able to find anything that has given me the same desire to play as this game.

yep - was my first MMORPG and the one which had the most emotional impact for me.
Was a place where I not just played and created but also met people who felt likewise and partly also became friends. A place to dream and express those dreams without being afraid of the following reaction. A place where you sometimes also only could talk and eschange thoughts in a relaxing enviroment. A place, that felt like a virtual home.

I had played other MMO's before (Asheron's Call, Star Wars Galaxies, Horizons, a few others).
But my first love was comic books and superheroes. I had played some other superhero games as well, Superhero League of Hoboken, Freedom Force, Freedom Force 2, but man did I ever want a never ending superhero game where I could create my own characters.

I played CoH from the 4th wave of beta all the way to the day they turned the lights out, and my subscription NEVER lapsed.
I played on Virtue and spent just as much time roleplaying and writing character fiction on my heroes as I did playing. I would be be playing RIGHT NOW if it was still here.

So yeah, you could say CoH was significant to me. It's why I'm so looking forward to Ship of Heroes. It can't come soon enough.

I played CoHV from just after I1 launched (my son introduced me to this new superhero game :D) until nc shut it down. I think (for some folks, myself included), a lot is riding on SoH to stand in CoHVs shoes and, hopefully, become better.

I had played other MMO's before (DAOC), and I really enjoyed CoH. I got in at the beginning, and played through CoV until around the time AE came out.

CoH was still the best and easiest game to group up and play to have fun for me.
