The Next Few Things

Postby Consultant » Mon Dec 31, 2018 11:39 am

We had hoped to launch a new video showing the Holiday event for 2018 by now, but I do need to say that we are going to publishing it with a week or two -- sorry about the delay.

I was in-game yesterday with a couple of devs, and we were testing the combat for the video. We found a couple of things...little stuff, but we like to fix the stuff we find before we publish, so we need a bit more time.

After this we'll publish a video of greatest hits or something from the Login tests. So if you want to nominate some greatest moments, or even send us clips to look at and maybe use, let us know.

We'll also publish a newsletter within the next week talking about progress in 2018 (spoiler alert -- there was a lot of progress).

So that is the next few things.

Enjoy New Year's Even and New Year's Day. But please be careful out there. :)

That sounds great, Consultant! Always interesting to see your videos. And hopefully next year we will all be able to celebrate the holidays in Apotheosis City, whether it be alpha, beta, test server or something else.

Well, I have a little bit of news. We were able to record the raw footage for the next video last night. It was kind of interesting. I realized something about myself -- I like order and tight unit cohesion (did I ever say that my father was a Marine combat officer? It's true).

The fight in this video is much more like a giant scrum. We had a lot of enemies, and the tank could not hold aggro on all of them at the same time. Which made it interesting. Several members of our dev team thought this was just great. We also used the new infusions code in this video, and we show it off at the end. I'm excited by this addition to the game.

And of course, we have the area decorated for Christmas. A bit late, but hopefully OK. We also used a couple of the hero costumes from the Login Tests, just to shake things up.

This was a 7-man team, which is the largest we've shown so far, to my recollection.

I have no doubt that we will get important feedback from the community when we publish this video. :)

I don’t know the full circumstances however I am a bit concerned that the tank was unable to hold aggro :/

To be honest. Im glad the tank couldn't hold all of the aggro. To me there is nothing more boring /repetative than ..

1. tank gather all mobs together (sometimes running to multiple rooms to do so)
2. Aoe mobs down using x /y/z powers
3. repeat

If i tank is to hold aggro completely it should involve a long process of building and maximizing your characters powers.

Its funny in wow when a tank loses aggro and players freak out. It makes everyone learn their class tools and I believe everyone has more fun because they are more involved.

example;
lvl 10 tank. Can hold aggro on 4 of 6 mobs in a pull.
lvl 14 tank adds another power that aids in aggro OR adds enhancements to existing powers thus making aggro better. Can hold aggro on 6 of 8 mobs in a pull.
lvl 16....

A steady improvement in the "power creep" makes the game more enjoyable.

If the tank is running around gathering multiple groups he should lose aggro.

However if it is one group, and he can’t maintain aggro that is reason to be concerned. Depending on the circumstances.

  • If some hotshot starts attacking prior to the tank that’s on them.
  • But if aggro is pulled from a tank actively trying to maintain aggro that’s a different story and should be looked at closely.

Hopefully the video will reveal the whole sordid story! I can wait, but I don't want to. ^_^
