Re: How do you feel about puzzle elements in MMORPGs?

Mildly positive when used sparingly Here's a (non mmorpg) example - Mass Effect 2 has various objects you have to 'bypass' or 'hack'; and by various I mean there are 2 or 3 in every single mission in the game. Each one launches a little 30 second minigame with a time limit. It's cute and interesting...

Re: Devastator and Defender overlap?

But I will add this observation. For min-maxxers (count me as one) it was worth it in COH to go and get the Accolades, even though the stats boost was very, very modest. It was achievable, and free and permanent. So we went for it. The differences we are discussing in this thread are much much grea...

Re: Hair and Hair Models

good to hear, I would say in the world of customizable MMO gaming, hair style and color options might be more important than facial features... (we're not exactly playing Mass Effect, staring at Shepard's face during the conversations all day)

Re: What was your travel power of choice, and why?

On a related note, one of our developers (I won't say a key developer because in a small team, we are all key developers) contractracted pneumonia, and was unable to work, then began to recover, and then got a second breathing problem that landed him in the hospital for a day or two. So we are behi...

Re: What didn't you like in CoH?

Students have lots of time but not so much money. Workers have more money but not so much time. Maybe that is why almost every surviving MMORPG is pay to win in one form or another. (I count the "must buy expansion packs to advance" approach of World of Warcraft and Lord of the Rings Online as pay ...

Thirding this suggestion. 2FA is almost mandatory in today's world, in my opinion.

Re: My little blog about the aggravation of playing MMO's after COH

Let's not forget the current state of world of warcraft's 'upper level' PVE where groups demand you have a certain "PVE Score" (measured by external add-ons and websites) as well as a gear level that is often times HIGHER than the content you're trying to do before they will even consider inviting y...

Re: How many Kheldians are here?

I spent a lot of time building a "Human form only" peacebringer. Ended up as a kind of weak tank/blaster hybrid It was great when they altered light form's appearance and recharge time. Human form with def cap and perma light form was fun.....then transform into dwarf mode and light form carries ov...

Re: Your Devs Ask You

They may be seeing the same boss on paper, but the level 50 has far more resources to fight with, so he does more damage, and takes less damage relatively, compared to the level 1. GladDog was spot on with his big wall of text from what I remember. Adding to this - side-kicking and exemplar seemed ...

Re: Mez mechanics

One idea I had for CoH mezzing that was never implemented, was to pair mezzing with appropriate debuffing. In most cases, the debuffing wouldn't matter since the mez effect would make irrelevant, but if the mez landed but did not have an effect, then the debuffing would matter. This changed mez pow...

Re: Defender secondaries

Well, personally I never played my Defender outside of group content, and like I said I picked damage powers only when I absolutely was forced and I (with the exception of Nova) didn't slot them either so for me it was a conscious choice to completely gimp my soloing abilities.

Re: Defender secondaries

well, maybe an alternate archetype than the 'defender' with defender primary but control secondary is what I was thinking of (kind of like the way Dominators were controllers with a different secondary in COH)
