Re: What's an Alpha?

In old-timey software development, there are three test phases: Unit Test Each module is tested independently. So you might test storing something in a database, or logging in, etc. The program isn't really assembled, each piece is tested independently. Alpha Test For the first time, all the pieces ...

Re: Poll - How large would you like large battles/Raid's to be?

I remember huge numbers congregating for screenshots. That would be cool.

For fighting though, I'd say 32-40 is a good number. Many MMO's have 32-man raids.

Several times a week, unless work is slow, then mostly every day.

Re: Control Powers

I remember on my ice/ice blaster stacking ice storm, ice slick, and frost cone. That would slow the mobs down to a crawl LOL. They'd all be running at .01 mph to get out of the storm, all the while slipping and falling down. I really hope SoH can capture that fun.

Re: Crafting Question

Some drops will be blueprints, and some will be stuff. But in general, crafted items will be better, or unique, so that there will be a desire to make and/ or buy them. Since G.A. just asked about the trial and error concept I would like to add a question :) will there be something like a learning ...

Re: Crafting Question

The main decision to make about crafting is: Will crafted items be better than any drops? If the best stuff in the game is crafted, then crafting becomes important. If drops are just as good as crafted, then crafting becomes just a hobby for those who enjoy it. I like the Ryzom approach: mobs only d...

Re: The best things about CoH

I really think we had the best community also. I played 3 games in 2004: DAOC, CoH, and Ryzom. They all had great communities. That was when MMO's were new, before the Mortal Kombat kiddies came on the scene. Ryzom has perhaps the best crafting of any game ever. In Ryzom, each ability has its own l...

Re: Should SoH give rewards for teaming with new players as a method of making the new people feel welcome?

Welcome Olepi ... and glad you mentioned " mentor stat" ... How about a mentor stat? Based on an experience index; as you play, you increase the experience index. Even a level 1 could have a high index if they play lots of alts. So, help a true new player, based on their low index, and you get poin...

Volunteers?

Some of us have many years experience in software development, systems integration, game systems, etc. Is SoH considering using any volunteers? For simple coding, or unit-alpha-testing, or anything else?

The best things about CoH

Here are a few of the things that made me really enjoy CoH; 1) ease of grouping and the sidekick system -- CoH was probably the easiest and best grouping game I've ever played. It was so easy to gather up people for a PUG, and the excellent sidekick system made it easy to match people up. 2) differe...

Re: so many negative comments on Youtube

It's a fundamental problem humans have. We had a great experience in the past, and now we want to repeat it. But life doesn't do that. You can't repeat it, exactly. The amount of effort you put into trying to force the present to mimic the past, is the amount you are putting into making yourself mis...

Re: Inspirations as food question

I'd like a multi-tier system. Food/drink could be used as a base buff or heal, not usable in combat. You can't eat while fighting. So concentrates would be next; a mild buff/heal that could be used in combat, made from food/drinks by a crafter. Stimpacks would be the ultimate, Strong buff/heal, usab...

Re: TEMP POWERS, AUGMENTS AND INSPIRATIONS

In CoH, you could slot any enhancement you had. One way to differentiate from this would be to have a learning tree, where you have to learn about a subject before you could use any augments for that tree. And then implement a cap on learning, so that if you learned everything about accuracy, for ex...

I was Olepi on Protector, Ice/Ice all the way baby! Glad you found us Olepi! Welcome to the ship! Nice to see some protector survivors. I also had Blackavar -- Warshade Olectron -- elec/elec blaster Otrumba -- ill/emp And a bunch more, also in CoV. I still remember Enhancement Diversification.
