Something that's not quite extreme, but stealing the idea shamelessly would be to have events that prevent rez, or at least, once you die in the mission you can't re-enter. That would at least add a decent degree of tension to mission without the threat of losing something you've spent hundreds of ...

Id rather not see bonuses for staying alive (the carrot) because groupmates will resent others doubly if some accident happens and there's a wipe. "Ahh man Cybershot, now we cant get our bonus! It's sort of funny, because I've had a crazy thought about how this might be done. But it would be really complicated, and we are not working on it -- we need to get the core game launched. Still, I'm keeping a mental note for the future.

One thing I suggest keeping in mind regarding dash powers:
Watch the speed of the dash. Teleporting is fine. But if a character is leaping forward, please make the leap realistic. It feels awkward if its really fast just for the sake of moving somewhere instantly.
