yeah I was hit by an email bomb a few months back... one credit company unlocked my credit. was still locked by the other two... but one unlocking my credit was enough... within a month of them unlocking it I had a new credit card and 4k worth of purchases... got it all cleared up, and I got a new email address, but I am kind of leary of using it on new sites that I don't know. worried about it being compromised again. :/ so the old one was used for registration.

Ouch! Definitely understandable. I'd just suggest making a second new e-mail address specifically for new sites, on gmail.com or outlook.com or something. In any case, let me know if you didn't receive the confirmation e-mail or have any other problems.

probably a good idea. had not thought of that. just that I've had that email address for 25 years... I'm still with it because so much is linked to it. slowly linking accounts to the new gmail one. will consider making a second one for that purpose.

I hate those guys. honestly I would cut their fingers off... yeah I know it sounds barbaric...

I believe I've mentioned it before, but I really do strongly encourage ditching phpBB for either Xenforo or Invision Power Board, and then using something like CleanTalk which can automatically block most spammers.

I admin a fairly large forum for tabletop gamers, and about 25,000 spammers are automatically blocked every week.
